In 1977–1982 G. Fontaine et al. presented descriptions of primary cardiomyopathy – arrhythmogenic dysplasia of the right ventricle (ARVC), as cases of sudden death in young people with right ventricular tachycardia. Mutations of desmosome proteins, the main elements of the intercellular adhesion structures present in the myocardium, are the most common genetic cause of ARVC.
In 1994, the Working Group criteria (TFC) were approved for the diagnosis of ARVC, in 2010, the criteria were revised. The most important include changes in the right chest leads on the electrocardiogram, signs of dilatation of the pancreas with local dyskinesias according to echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging, stable ventricular tachycardia from the right ventricle, fibrous or fibro-fatty myocardial replacement and the detection of specific mutations.
