Abstract

Pulmonary artery banding (the Muller operation) in some cases contributes a significant reduction or complete closure of ventricular septum defect and eliminating the need for its repair. However, severe stenosis of the pulmonary artery by the band makes the operation unavoidable. The aim of this report is to present the experience of the surgical treatment of young children with closure or insignificant ventricular septum defect after pulmonary artery banding and discuss the prospects for this procedure in surgical treatment of ventricular septum defect. The mean age of patients was 16.8 months. The time from the pulmonary artery banding before debanding varied within 14–19 months. In this article discusses options for accessing the Muller operation, as well as alternative methods for pulmonary artery banding.
